Haw Creek Falls

HawCreekBWNEWPRINT

Ozark National Forest, Arkansas - April 18, 2011

I have always been inspired by the textures and shapes of boulders and try to incorporate them into compositions.  Though the main section of falls on Haw Creek are located outside the frame to the left of this scene, I used this portion of cascades to balance my main subject, the large boulder in the middle of the scene.  This image was made late in the day as the light began to diminish and exposures lengthen.  After making the first image, due to the long exposure, I noticed the camera reveal the submerged rocks that were difficult to physically see.  I recomposed this scene several times until the placement and amount of foreground rocks balanced the large boulder and falls.
