Rio Grande Sunset (NEW)
Big Bend National Park, Texas
I feel very blessed to have been able to witness such an incredible sunset...I tried my best to capture the essence of this moment, but nothing could replace being there, seeing it in person. Throughout my week long visit to Big Bend National Park, severe thunderstorms moved in and out of the area. Several times, I would scout out a composition and be in place, ready to make an image of dramatic light either at sunset or sunrise without any results. Finally, I found myself at this overlook along a trail near the Rio Grande Village as a storm began to break over the Chisos Mountains. I used a telephoto zoom, at 70mm, to isolate the "S" curve of the river and layering of the mountains while preserving the dark clouds highlighted by the sun's last light rays. With its remoteness, low visitation, wildlife, wildflowers, canyons, the Rio Grande and cultural history, Big Bend National Park is one of my favorite places to travel!
