Capitol Reef National Park, Utah
During this evening, while trying to dry out from another rainy day in the nearby town of Torrey, I noticed a large section of clearing sky on the western horizon. I knew that there was a very good chance of this rainbow happening once the setting sunlight could break through the sky onto the remaining storm. I quickly drove to the closest spot in the park where I could photograph this event along with Capitol Reef's grand landscape, Sunset Point. On the way, the rainbow had already appeared and I knew it might not last long. After arriving at the trailhead, I grabbed my camera and literally ran the 1/3 mile trail to the overlook. Due to the brilliant color found in the rocks of these canyons, the Navajo call the Capitol Reef area "Land of the Sleeping Rainbow." I felt blessed to witness this awakening of the land!
