Like many plants in the desert, this Pinyon Pine has had a tough life, surviving by clinging to the exposed rock of Zion National Park. I made this image at sunrise while the sun was slightly diffused by the edge of a cloud. This allowed softer lighting on the rock and proper exposure of the clouds and sky.
