Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Utah
While visiting southern Utah, I knew that on one day of the trip, there would be a sunset at the same time the moon would rise in the east. I needed to visit a special place for this event, so I decided to photograph this moonrise over Lake Powell. The first images that I made were actually of the last light of the sunset illuminating the tops of the distant canyon with a warm light and the moon slightly lower in the sky. But after comparing that image with this image made later the same evening, I decide that I preferred the magenta hue of the clouds in the sky and the way they and the moon reflects in the water of this composition.
